Who We Are

About Overdrive

A community of writers, coders and dungeon-runners keeping a 30-year tradition alive.

Overdrive is a LPMUD, a derivative of the MUD written by Lars Pensji. We are running on a parser called MudOS 0.8.14 (Currently using MudOS OD-baltwanga-0.9.19-1), written by our friends at TMI (The Mud Institute), regrettably no longer in existence. Several of MudOS are Overdrive Alumni. The Mudlib we run is of our own design.

MUDs have basically two classes of people: Players and Wizards. Players are the purpose of the game and are the mortals of the world created. Wizards were once players, but through great deeds have ascended to immortality and now shape the world for other mortals. Perhaps you too will one day cross the great gap from mortality to immortality.

Overdrive's Features

Unlimited Training

Overdrive offers unlimited training. We're sure there is a cap somewhere in the math, however we have yet to find it. You can spend your hard earned experience on any class Skill, Stat, Talent (fighter, thieves), Spells (mage), Gifts (priests), or Incantation (necromancer). To spend experience is unlimited as well!

Hero Levels

Hero Levels was a creation when there was a Level Cap of 160, and training caps. After OD was updated to allow for unlimited levels and training, we decided to keep Hero Levels because they offer both another way for players to spend experience and grow their character. Heroes of Farcaern are rewarded with the ability to wield special weapons and armors. Do you have what it takes to be a hero?

Class Vaults

Each class has a guild vault, a place for players of that class to deposit any equipment that they might find on their adventures. In turn any player of that class can withdraw that equipment deposited by the previous player. It makes for easier sharing of items across the game.

Detailed Help Directory

Overdrive has a very detailed and in-depth help directory for all types of players: new, old and returning, and those who still play. The help files are extremely useful when you're trying to remember a certain command; or if you need to brush up on the rules of the game.

Newbie Hall

The Newbie Hall is a great place for new (or if you've been away for a while) players to learn how Overdrive as a game functions. The area provides an easy way for those players to get to know how Overdrive and the world of Farcaern turns.

In Game MudMail System

Overdrive has a great built-in MudMail system. Players can send mail to other players in game to pass along information, reconnect, or even tell stories. MudMail is only in-game and cannot be used to send a message to a regular email address outside of OD.

The Wizards

Builders, coders, and arch-immortals — listed below in order of how loud they shout in #ops.
